My Personal Mission Statement
I have always admired individuals who have worked in plastic surgery. They have committed a lot of time and effort into getting the certifications required to work in this field, and it is something I truly envy. I currently work at a large dermatology practice, and while I have learned a lot of valuable information over the past few years, I still feel like I can achieve more self fullfillment by working in plastic surgery. By graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, passing the NCLEX and gaining relevant experience in the field, I hope to be able to one day achieve my goal to work alongside a well known plastic surgeon.
In order to achieve this goal, receiving the appropraite education is a must. I am currently enrolled at Georgia State University and am committed to receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Given I have been out of school for six years, I will have to start by retaking the core classes, such as Math, English, and Biology. School has never been easy for me, so achieving this goal will take a lot of hard work and dedication on my part. Once finished with my core classes, I will enroll in the clinic portion of the nursing program which will be more hands on learning. I have always been better at hands on learning compared with book learning, so I am excited to get to this point.
While getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is an important step, I will also need to pass the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) exam in order to become officially certified. This is a standardized exam that tests whether I am prepared for an entry-level nursing practice. I am not the best at test taking, so this exam will take a lot of time and dedication for me to pass. Although it may take me more than one try to pass this exam, I am dedicated to succeeding, as I must pass this exam in order to be able to accomplish my goal.
Obtaining relevant experience in the field will also be a hurdle that must be overcome in order to reach my goal. As stated before, I currently work in the skincare field; however, I do not have any experience in a plastic surgery environment. I will gain this experience by looking for training opportunities. I may have to start out in a small practice with a provider that is not well established, but after working hard, I hope to be able to achieve my goal of working for a well respected plastic surgeon.
By graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, passing the NCLEX and gaining relevant experience in the field, I will be well placed to achieve my goal to work alongside a well known plastic surgeon. While this goal may not happen for several years, I am determined to eventually achieve this goal and to then make a new goal for me to reach for.
